I take the Path's "alternative route" on the north bank from Walton bridge, returning to the river at Shepperton Landing to avoid the need for crossing by ferry. From here the river passes through the villages of Laleham and Egham Hythe before reaching the town previously known as Staines; in 2012 the town was officially renamed Staines-upon-Thames in an attempt to boost its image.
